  22. You are one of the lucky ones.  I hadn't taken a bus for about 5 years
  23. when I decided to try it out this last Christmas.  (No, not Christmas
  24. day, the day before).  It will probably be at *least* 5 years before I
  25. take a Metro bus again.

  27. I found myself at the Seattle Center when I wanted to go home.  I pulled
  28. out my trusty quarter and called Metro to find out route information to
  29. get home.  I live in Totem Lake (near Bothell/Woodinville).  Not more
  30. than a half mile from 405, and within a mile of several major arterials.
  31. I had to feed more quarters into the phone while the metronerd tried to
  32. figure out how to get me home.  It seems that Metro only runs direct
  33. routes to my neck of the woods during morning and afternoon rush hour.

  35. The route I had to take was:  Take a bus from Center to bus tunnel.
  36. Transfer to bus to downtown Bellevue.  Transfer to bus to Totem Lake.
  37. Walk home.  Travel time: a little over two hours.  I can drive my car,
  38. park, and walk to a function at the Coliseum in 30 minutes!  Even in
  39. heavy traffic it doesn't take me more than an hour.

  41. Mind you, Totem Lake isn't exactly a rural area.
