  12. I forgot a biggie. While at Tech Ops in 1962 I wrote a paper on coherence
  13. (i.e. 2 point correlation) in thermal radiation published in Nuovo Cimento.
  14. I got idea of quantum phase operator. I proposed this problem to Lenny
  15. Susskind who was a grad student with me at Cornell in 63. I also got
  16. Phil Morrison to let Johnny Glogower come to Cornell. Neither Glo or Lenny
  17. had under grad degrees. Lenny, Glo and I spend considerable time working on
  18. the problem together. Then I split for 6 months for the the sexy women in
  19. Newport Beach working at Aeronutronic where I met Fred Cummings. I bought
  20. a Jaguar convertible and did not have the money to pay tuition from my
  21. Cornell assistantship. I was quite like Toady of Toad Hall. Anyway Lenny
  22. Susskind published the famous paper in Physics 1964 on phase operators. It
  23. is often quoted. He put Glogower's name on the paper but did not put mine.
  24. I did not work on final form of paper so I can see why he did not put me
  25. on as a co-author- but most definitely the proper thing to do would have
  26. been to acknowledge my contribution at the beginning. I wasn't around and
  27. I created a scandal at Cornell by not paying tuition- so Lenny made
  28. a political decision of expediency. That's why he left my name out. He told
  29. me years later at Yeshiva U that he may be remembered more for the phase
  30. operator paper than for technicolor. Lenny has always played academic
  31. politics very well. He is very smart.
