  11. I would appreciate hearing from university graduate students and faculty in any
  12. of the following related fields,
  13. * physics
  14. * applied physics
  15. * electrical/electronic engineering
  16. regarding preparation for PhD program qualifying examinations.  
  17. Specifically: 
  18. (1) Does your university have a recommended study list of topics
  19. or a syllabus, and what are its contents? 
  20. (2) How about a recommended book list?
  21. (3) Finally, how much time should the "typical" MS level student at your
  22. institution expect to study such review material in addition to study/work 
  23. duties?  (e.g. 1 quarter - 1 year supplementary study)
