  13. Greetings. I've been watching for an FAQ list in this group, but
  14. haven't seen one.  I apologize for this obvious FAQ, but, can someone
  15. please recommend general purpose interactive statistical package(s) to
  16. run on workstation (e.g. Sun SPARC) and possibly other non-PC
  17. computers (e.g. VAX/VMS), and where to obtain them? We are in need of
  18. phasing out RS1 on our VAX, because it is too expensive for the
  19. limited use which is made of it.  I'm trying to talk with BBN
  20. Software, Inc. about their workstation version of RS1, and waiting for
  21. information from them on this and their new product (all I know so far
  22. is that they have SOMETHING new), but I believe there must be far
  23. newer and surely better products out there.  The other package I know
  24. exists is SAS, but have no other information about it. I would very
  25. much appreciate knowing where to call/write to get more information
  26. about SAS and any other packages which people recommend (or recommend
  27. AGAINST).  Valuable features would be:
  28.     1) Interactive and programmable.
  29.     2) Full complement of statistical analysis capabilites (obvious?).
  30.     3) Good plotting capability (PostScript & X, at least).
  31.     4) Access to external SQL databases (Ingres).
  32.     5) Ability to 'import' existing RS1 data and procedures would
  33.         be great, but probably not a realistic expectation.
