- NO reason! Well how about cynicism!
-
- A component of our company recently tried to send 10 ml of polymer extract
- through US customs so that we could analyze it under exactly the same
- conditions that had been used in Europe. The solvent for the extract was
- acetone.
-
- Because of this 10 ml of acetone, we lost 2 months getting the shipment
- though customs and the bill from the customs broker was $800.
-
- I personally had to undergo two, 1/2 hour discussions with the customs
- broker as I tried to explain to absolutely no avail that I could go down
- and buy a gallon of this same material at my local hardware.
-
- By the time the sample actually arrived in my lab, we had no confidence
- whatsoever that it hadn't changed and we had to repeat a long involved
- extraction procedure anyway.
-
- After this experience, I don't think that there is any chemical including
- water which might not be regulated at some point. After, all we are already
- talking about regulating monosodium glutamate out of nothing but pure
- unadulterated ignorance--since it is clearly impossible to eat virtually
- any protein and not end up with glutamate in the gut after hydrolysis of
- the protein.
-
- TCA is a very strong acid, it may not be regulated by DEA but it will be
- regulated by somebody, you can bank on that!
