- A couple of days ago I picked up, at a pawn shop for $10, the smallest
- and lightest circular saw I've ever seen. It's a Black and Decker
- "5 1/2 er" and weighs about four pounds, i.e., about half the weight
- of a normal 5 1/2-inch trim saw.
-
- Naturally, it isn't very powerful, but with a fresh Piranha blade it
- has no trouble cutting through a yellow pine 2x4 at a fair speed.
-
- It's battle-worn and vibrates noticeably more than my good Skilsaw, but
- it seems usable. I want to get a plywood blade for it and use it for cuts
- in paneling and the like.
-
- Is anyone familiar with this model? Can anybody tell me how old it is?
- Any experiences to relate? vendors of blades? (The 5 1/2-inch pickings
- were mighty slim at the local Lowe's: basically, a 16-tooth Piranha and
- a plain steel one with about the same number of teeth.)
