- Barry,
- you are getting into a very stickey area on who can install a AAD.
- Rigging innovations is correct in that they do not provide authorization
- for field approval of the cypres on the talon. They do however for the
- sse mk12000 which is really probably a more complicated installation.
- The FAA's advisory circular AC105-2c para 8 says in part that the installation
- of an AAD on a certificated parachute (your reserve) is an alteration if the
- maufacturer does not provide instructions for the installation. (RI does not
- for the cypress.) In order to get it approved, the person doing the alteration
- must get it approved by the FAA (and the guy who approved it in the faa most
- likely wouldn't know what he was doing).
- I am not putting down the people who want to install it. I would feel very
- comfortable letting them do it on my rig or my wife's. I'm just trying to
- point out some of the legal points (my interpetation)
- The PIA is attempting to deal with this problem had have published a
- interesting ADD/RSL Survey report. Its Technical Bulletin TB-260 of which
- i am looking at the draft copy of Aug 10 1992. Ray should have a copy of it.
- Ask him if you can see it and AC105-2c. Then make your decision.
- Sorry if I've just complicated the matter.
