  24. Not a flame, but according to Gary Kleck, _Point Blank_, Aldine De Gruyter,
  25. 1991 :

  30.     including non-resistance."

  32. And that in the US, the number of defensive uses of guns per year are :

  35. Mauser Poll, 1990, 691,000 gun defenses per year (page 107) 
  36. Field Poll (California), 1978, 1.2 million handgun defenses per year (page 467) 
  37. Time/CNN Poll, 1989, 908,061 handgun defenses per year (page 468)

  39. The 1.2 million figure is perhaps the most suspect, since it involves a
  40. projection of California statistics onto the rest of the US, but taken
  41. in concert, those four polls all seem to show that the use of guns to
  42. defend is not a trivial part of our nationwide crime prevention program.

  44. Sorry for invading your opinions with actual data, but we here in the
  45. US are currently observing the steady erosion of our 2nd amendment
  46. rights, and I feel that it is imperitave to try to shine light on
  47. this issue.
