- My father has a Brittany Spaniel who is an excellent dog. He
- is absolutly wonderful around the house (I didn't particularly like
- dogs before him). He is very smart, well trained, and has superb
- behaivior. He sheds minimally. I would be hesitant about putting a dog
- like this in an area where he wouldn't get a lot of running room, but
- other than that I give Brittanys recommendation over anything else.
- He hunts mostly upland, but also retrieves. Brittanys are
- usually close working dogs, but ours is a little too ambitious and
- will occasionally flush birds for himself (he hunts mostly woodcock,
- pheasant, and grouse). He is very good at going wherever the scent is
- and follows hand and verbal signals well. We haven't taken him duck
- and goose hunting a lot yet, but he has done well so far.
- Provided you have the space and time for one, Brittanys are
- excellent dogs. They are among the best around the house, and excel at
- hunting upland game. They aren't the best breed for hunting in blinds,
- but will perform adequately.
