- I would've sent this by email, but MJ's articles don't have any paths on 'em.

-
- Unfortunately, no. I do have one friend who's a tool-and-die maker, but
- he doesn't have the engineering knowledge. A further search has so far
- turned up no ME's who are even FOAFOAFs.
-
- The drawings are pretty trivial. We're talking a really simple design.
-
- The structural analysis and materials selection are the two tough parts.
- While I believe that the design is so overengineered that it wouldn't go
- boom if I fed it .30-06's, I just want to PROVE it. And I want to make
- the parts in such a way that I don't wear out the bearing surfaces on the
- frame.
-
- #Think of it like an M.E. having an idea for a CAD package and wanting to
- #read a few books on programming, UNIX, etc. etc.
-
- But we're not talking about arcane stuff here, just putting together a
- rather simple gun. Also, I'm not after general knowledge, but rather one
- specific area. While I couldn't write the engineering analysis parts of
- that CAD package, I *could* do quite a lot of the graphics -- and I didn't
- spend all of my time in college sitting in front of a SGI.
-
- Finally, I am not planning on taking two weeks for a general review of the
- available materials, followed by blowing myself up. :-) I'm in no hurry.
- I'm looking for starting points, not immediate answers.
-
- How hard is it to make a 1911A1 slide? Or the "blowback SMG" that has
- been bandied about lately?
