If you do lots of cold WX stuff, consider getting a lamp that can use a lithium battery. I've got a IME headlamp which accepts 1 lithium cell or 4 AA alkalines. (You do need to change the bulb according to the cell you use.) The going rate for lithium cell is about $20.)
But in really cold WX, I find that the lithium cells burns alot longer than alkalines -- a nice feature if you get caught doing a prolonged descent (or approach) in dark. For camping, etc, I suppose it does not make much difference.
