- Your figure must include around 30-40 million Japanese who all moved to
- Southern California :-). The actual numbers are around 120 Mil for Japan
- and around 225-230 Mil for the US.

-
- Nope. They're productive in the sense that they build a relatively small
- mix of product, simple designs, etc. I believe the most productive
- plant title belongs to Ford but I can't remember which plant. Also consider
- other Japanese business practices which seemingly increase productivity
- in their own way (read having ENTIRE cars built by easy-to-coerce-and-
- cut-costs suppliers (Toyota for example), etc).

-
- Nope. Part of the reason the Japanese savings rate is so high is because
- the government does NOT provide for things like retirement; Per se taxes
- are not high in Japan, either corporate taxes or individual taxes. Money
- Magazine did a study of this a while back comparing three families, an
- American, a German, and a Japanese family. Read it and you'll see.
-
- The high prices people pay in Japan can be attributed to many things, not
- just support of the home team; the Farm Lobby there is very powerful, hence
- $5 apples, $10 watermelons, etc. Cultural and other reasons do not encourage
- haggling of prices, so most people pay sticker price for everything.
- Discount stores are more or less unheard of and there is little competition
- or reason to drop prices.
-
- (anybody wanna open a Walmart in Japan?)
