- the car makers have currently more or less settled on 0.29-0.30 as the
- practical limit for low drag coefficients. beyond this other
- considerations become more important like trying to keep lift down
- rather than go all out for low drag.. (e.g. some cars have sprouted
- draggy downforce wings to improve high speed stability)
-
- also, drag is a major contributor to braking at very high speeds. if
- you wanted a super low drag car, you would have needed big, powerful
- and expensive brakes if you wanted to responsibly engineer a car,
- since a slippery car will go much faster and will have less drag
- assistance.
-
- the moral of this is: don't get too hung up on whose Cd is 0.29 and
- whose is 0.32.. the makers are not in competition anymore to see
- who can come up with the lowest Cd. if they are bragging about
- it, it is simply marketing propaganda.
