- I think that PASC and ATRAC is only the first step towards DAB
- (Digital Audio Broadcast). Somewhere I read that to enable DAB to a
- moving target like a car you must increase the 'lossyness' compression
- from 1/4 (DCC) or 1/5 (MD) ratio to something like 1/9 or 1/10. Last
- year experiment was done i Sweden to transmit DAB over the ordinary FM
- band. Invited journalists and other with 'golden' ears has reported a
- much better sound quality than the analogue way. Another benefit is
- that each FM tranmitter that broadcast the same radio channel can use
- the same FM frequency (without interference) and the power (Watts)
- required to broadcast is decreased significantly. => Saves energy.
-
- I think it would be interested to hear from someone who knows more
- about DAB and how the future is planned.
