- The major cost difference is probably labor, not transportation.
- I worked for a small grocery store while was in high school in
- the early '60s and a major part of my time was spent sorting
- returnable bottles. The soft drink companies then have to clean
- them before use (I found just about anything you can imagine from
- rubbers to dead mice in empties).
