- In a previous article, hlg@po.CWRU.Edu (Heather L. Garvey) says:
-
- > Shyah! Right! Like Grundner wrote ANY of FreePort! All CWRU got
- >from the original Freenet is the NAME and REPUTATION. From what old users
- >of the original system tell me, it was nothing more than some piddly
- >little BBS, just like those run by 8th-graders all over the nation. In
- >fact, the software was *worse* than most and extremely painful and
- >frustrating to use. Tom didn't *make* ANY of CFN.
-
- grundner is too fucking stupid to have written anything. his small claim
- to fame is to have happened to have been in an area (read: cleveland) which
- had more than the national average of gullible and net.clueless people.
- it's really CWRU-INS' own fault for not distancing itself from the old
- monikers such as free-net and 'community telecomputing laboratory' (shyah,
- as if grundner was some investigator - the only thing that he had up on his
- lab bench was a one of his cohoorts, if you know what i mean).
-
- > Considering the fact that Grundner did diddly-squat for CFN
- >after CWRU took care of it, (Remember, Freenet was DEAD when CWRU took
- >it on. Without CWRU, it would not exist now.) he's real lucky they kept
- >him on and gave him a salary.
-
- he's like a mentally-challenged relative that you let stay in the attic
- out of the goodness of your heart.
-
- > As someone already said, *anyone* can sit around and say "Gee,
- >wouldn't community computing be a nifty idea?" Tom couldn't implement
- >this idea; why should he get all the credit for an idea thousands of
- >computer users have had, too?
-
- he only gets credit because there are -still- a lot of people who don't
- know a BBS from a hole in the ground. and it's unfortunate that there are
- still people who believe him because he's good at putting on a con job.
-
- without his CWRU affiliation, his little organization will be running on
- vapors instead of the 92 octane petrol it previously had. my prediction
- is that he'll hoodwink some poor school into backing him (can we say
- youngstown? beachwood public schools?).
-
- the man should be deported for being a member of the '70s preservation
- society. oh the humanity.
