  18. Not all that strange.  I know there are papers on breeding Carp for
  19. reduced number of intramuscular bones.  If I remember correctly, all
  20. they did there was to select the most favourable individuals and breed 
  21. them together, then do the same with their offspring, etc.  This is
  22. also the process that produced Koi (Japanese Coloured Carp) from common
  23. carp, the occasional natural mutation of which had some colouration.

  25. Isn't that the only way to produce desired traits in any animal? 
  26. (Except, I suppose, by doing strange things to the DNA using radiation...)
