- I may be wrong in this, but my impression was that a "1/2 ton pickup"
- means 1/2 ton (1000 lbs) of anything that the engineers didn't design as part
- of the truck, i.e., stuff in the bed, passengers, gasoline (in my truck, up
- to 20 gallons at around 7 lbs/gallon, i.e., a bit over 140 lbs), stuff
- in the glove box, tools and jumper cables behind the seat, dirt, etc.
-
- Since I weigh about 200 lbs fully dressed, and carry maybe 10 lbs in the
- glove box, and maybe another 30 lbs of stuff behind the seat, and allowing
- another 20 lbs for dirt, the 2M Ham radio antenna, etc., that leaves about
- 600 lbs for stuff in the bed of my S-10.
-
- If you want to put 1000 lbs in the bed, best go for a 3/4 ton job or else
- maybe a remote control system and electric power with a *LONG* extension
- cord! ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)
