  21. WOW I am sorry about your misfortune in residential schools. I have
  22. gone to schools for Learning Disabled people and I got a great
  23. education. I dont know if that is because LD schools tend to be
  24. private or what. But I too, have noticed since I have worked as a
  25. volunteer at Perkins School For the Blind in the Deaf-Blind
  26. Departement and from the Deaf-Blind department I can see why the
  27. students there are so isolated. It is because high functioning
  28. Deaf-blind students are being mainstreamed rather tan Perkins.
  29. There are only about three Smart Deaf-Blind students ans they are
  30. at different ages. THe res rest of the students are deaf-blind and
  31. mentallly retarded or with multihandicaps which makes the smart
  32. deaf-blind studetns feel isolaed only to soicalize with low
  33. functoning studetns. but 10 years ago Perkins was better and had
  34. more high functiong students but now Perkins has become more of a
  35. real institution for multihandicapped students.

  37. There is one Deaf-Blind Smart 17 year old who I think should be
  38. placed in a Deaf school instead of Blind school becuse there are
  39. more serices and Deaf stuents to socialize with and curriculums are
  40. geared toward the Deaf. As he is. His best friend is 17 year old
  41. Deaf young man at The American School  For The Deaf and I wish they
  42. would go to ASD together! Perkins becomes tooooo paternalistic
  43. sometimes.

  45. and very strict about certain things and the 17 year old gets
  46. punished for stupd things that the dorm staff catch punish him for
  47. really nothing!
