  16. This year the Super Bowl will be played on Sunday January 31.  As
  17. in years past that day is expected, once again, to be the single
  18. worst day for domestic violence in the USA.  The volume of calls
  19. handled by domestic violence shelters around the nation increases
  20. by as much as 40% on this day.  Victims may become disabled or even
  21. die as a result.

  23. To try to stem this tide of violence Fairness and Accuracy in
  24. Reporting (FAIR) has asked NBC to carry two Public Service
  25. Announcements about domestic violence during their Super Bowl
  26. telecast this year.  Additional support has come from the Women's
  27. Action Coalition (WAC) of Los Angeles And in an editorial in the
  28. January 17, 1993 edition of the New York Times.

  30. Your help is needed.  Send your letter or fax in support of FAIR
  31. and this initiative to NBC.  the FAX number for NBC is:

  33. rephrase or rewrite this letter to your liking, but please FAX or
  34. write them immediately.  Also, please cross-post this announcement
  35. wherever you think it appropriate.
