  14. Around here, many merchants want a "check guarantee card."  My check guarantee
  15. card has the Visa logo, but says "Checking Card" right on it, so I suppose Visa
  16. can't have any objection to it being used to cover a check.  The merchants here
  17. just write the 16-digit card number and expiration date on the check.  Does
  18. anyone know how this service works, and whether it costs the merchant an extra
  19. fee?  When I lived four months in Illinois, the stores there had never heard of
  20. a bank-issued check guarantee card, but each grocery chain had their own
  21. checking card.  How widespread are "check guarantee cards"?
