- Oh, if the world were so simple! Although credit card applications can
- be big money makers for banks, consumer banking in general is not. I
- think many banks wish you would take your checking elsewhere, unless
- you are leaving thousands of dollars in your checking account. With
- the advent of ATMs, lowering banks' transaction costs and non-return
- of checks, lowering postage costs, profit margins may have improved
