  30. The problem is making sure that you have all the pre-reqs needed for
  31. a fix and with the HUGE amount of fixes out there knowing where your
  32. system is at any given time is difficult since sometimes installing a
  33. fix will break something else.

  35. A few months back our University AIX Users group had a meeting with
  36. some of the installp (and I think kernel) people (one of the perks
  37. being in Austin).  They were talking about AIX 4.0 and they were
  38. talking about having the ability to allow admins to shrink filesystems
  39. online, etc.

  41. What I would much rather have more than anything else in this world is
  42. for IBM to take a group of their AIXers and have them install ALL the
  43. fixes in the system (fixing those conflicts that might arise between
  44. patches), then 're-gen the kernel' (as my SE liked to say) and STOP.
  45. Release that as AIX 3.3.0

  47. I would much rather have reliable operation of the system that I
  48. have now instead of any 'new features' and alot of unresolved 
  49. questions.  I would gladly do a re-install on my machines, if I
  50. knew that what I was getting was sound.

  52. I'd also like to know what people are doing who have a 400 MB disk
  53. as rootvg and are running out of space to install these fixes (even
  54. after commiting).
