- Hi,
-
- I recently setup one of our Ultrix machines to handle doing postscript
- accounting using the lprps package. The postscript printer was hooked
- up over a serial line (/dev/tty00) to the Ultrix host. I got in the
- habit of modifying /etc/ttys, /etc/remote, and /etc/printcap to set
- things up.
-
- Now, I've got an AIX machine at 3.2.2 that also has a printer hooked
- up over a serial line and I'd like to know what I need to do to get
- the lprps package running properly. This sounds like something that
- should be in the FAQ so maybe it's best if it gets squared away here
- (forgive me if this has been talked about before and I'm just clueless.)
-
- 1. How are people doing postscript accounting on their AIX machines ?
-
- 2. What is the AIX equivalent of the "if" field of /etc/printcap ? ( The
- filter that's supposed to do accounting on the spooled file )
-
- 3. Ultrix (and probably other UNIXes) has the serial line under /dev/tty??
- but AIX uses the serial adapter s1 . How do you open up the serial
- adapter for communication with the printer ? Do you have to somehow link
- a tty with /dev/lp0 ?
-
- Anything else that's helpful, please feel free to insert. Please post
- to the group so that we can get some feedback on this issue.
-
- Thanks in advance,
-
