- Hi there,
-
- I just received an RS6000/350 running AIX3.2.3. In our environment which
- has also machines of other vendors, we run NIS and automount on all machines.
- NIS-Client setup was quite easy. Since the automounter on different Operating
- Systems is different (some support direct mounts, others have bugs, some
- support additional mount flags a.s.o) we decided to use local maps, not
- NIS-distributed maps. We also have only indirect mounts.
-
- Normally, I create a /etc/auto.master map containing the indirect Mountpoints
- and configure files and start up the automounter with "-f /etc/auto.master",
- but the automounter exits immediately with a usage-message. In IBM's "communication
- procedures and concept" there is an example how to distribute auto.master via
- NIS, but i suppose they have forgotten the -f option (so you could distribute
- auto.master via NIS, having references to local files).
-
- How can I overcome the problem. Can I start one automounter (how should
- the options be for more than one mount-point), or should I start a
- separate automounter for each Mount Point (there are only two) like
- automount /soft /etc/auto.soft
- automount /users /etc/auto.users
