- I need some help recovering data on a tape. Here's what happened.
-
- A user was trying to read from a tape with tar data (and it wasn't write
- protected), and inadvertently issues a tar cf /dev/tapeblah filea
- command. There was no file named "filea" but it looks like the header
- on the tape was overwritten anyway.
-
- We know the data is still on the tape, but it's inaccessible. I tried
- mt, dd, tarx,etc.. and tried to forward over the bad stuff and dump the
- data to no avail.
-
- Does anyone know how to recover the data or point me to a program that
- will?
-
- Thanks much!
