- Summary: What's needed to use NeXTstation as MicroVAX VT100 terminal?
-
-
-
- A client needs to connect a NeXTstation to her MicroVAX 3900 running VMS to use
- the NeXTstation as a MicroVAX terminal. It's connected to a DECserver terminal
- server via DECnet and (over?) ethernet. Terminal is a VT100 emulator, so it
- seems that it would generate escape sequences familiar to the MicroVAX.
-
- Seems like several approaches are possible:
-
- 1. Connect the NeXTstation to the DECserver via a serial line. If this is
- possible, how does one direct Terminal to connect to that serial port?
- Is any additional harware or software required on either end (other than
- a serial cable :-)
-
- 2. Make the NeXTstation an ethernet node and use telnet or rlogin to
- establish a MicroVAX login session. In my distant foggy past, I seem to
- recall using telnet to login to a VAX, so I assume that telnet and
- possible the "r" utilities (rlogin, rsh, rcp, etc.) are available for a
- MicroVAX. What additional hardware/software would be required?
-
- 3. (Fill in your favorite suggestion here.)
-
- Thanks for your help.
