- Hello,
-
- I had some trouble with a CMS Jumbo 250MB tape drive,
- the shop where I bought it replaced it by a Archive model
- 5580 (as far as I know, there are three model numbers
- which identify the same tape drive. The only difference
- is the "size": 5 1/4", 3 1/2" and 1"). I don't know if
- it is a good deal for me. If you have some useful
- information about this please reply by e-mail.
-
- Something else:
- The software which came along with it was CPBACKUP
- V7.2. I'm having trouble with formatting tapes with
- this piece of software (I tried this on 2 computers,
- and the tapes (3 of them) can be formatted just fine
- in another tape drive (CMS) with CPB). CPBACKUP
- formats the tapes with *NO* error message (One would
- expect an message that it couldn't format the tape(s),
- won't you?). When I try to access the tape I get an
- error message which tells me that the tape first should
- be formatted! I personally think the error is due to
- some timing trouble (of the soft- and/or hardware).
-
- So: are you using also Archive the above mentioned tape
- streamer? Do you also have any trouble (with CPBACKUP)?
-
- Please use e-mail (perry@win.tue.nl) if you reply.
-
- Thx in advance,
-

- PS: If you read one of my other questions, which are also posted in this
- area, you will probably have noticed that I've trouble with some
- 3M tapes which have bad blocks. But I'm pretty sure that the
- above problem is *NOT* "a tapes with bad block(s) problem".
