  15. I have just purchased a 486DX2-66 system (after much deliberation, might I say)
  16. from a company called Maximus, Pasadena, CA (1-800-368-8928). I am not
  17. sure I am doing the right thing yet, so I would like some opinions from the
  18. knowledgeable people in the net.

  20. I plan to have a partition for DOS/Windows and the other (main one) for
  21. Linux, with the XS3 X Window server. The disk is a 250 MB 12ms IDE Seagate. The
  22. controller is a DTC and it plugs in one of the three EISA slots.

  24. The system is an EISA-VESA Local bus board, with 2 ISA slots and 2 VL slots,
  25. one of which is used for the Volante Warp 10 LB board (S3/805 based). It
  26. has a 15" monitor (CTX).

  28. I have 16Mb of 60ns RAM, with 256K cache. It comes with the regular DOS
  29. and WINDOWS as well as mouse, floppies and a mini-tower case.

  31. The total, including shipping and handling is $3080.

  33. I was considering the Gateway 2000 66V System, but their phone service was
  34. really bad (with me).

  36. So, has anyone in the net had any good/bad experiences with the folks at
  37. Maximus? Do you think this a good deal? I think I have looked most of the
  38. aspects of the system for running Linux, so please, tell me if I am
  39. missing something. I have also consulted the buyers-guide (in comp.sys.intel?)
