- Hi there,
-
- I have just purchased a 486DX2-66 system (after much deliberation, might I say)
- from a company called Maximus, Pasadena, CA (1-800-368-8928). I am not
- sure I am doing the right thing yet, so I would like some opinions from the
- knowledgeable people in the net.
-
- I plan to have a partition for DOS/Windows and the other (main one) for
- Linux, with the XS3 X Window server. The disk is a 250 MB 12ms IDE Seagate. The
- controller is a DTC and it plugs in one of the three EISA slots.
-
- The system is an EISA-VESA Local bus board, with 2 ISA slots and 2 VL slots,
- one of which is used for the Volante Warp 10 LB board (S3/805 based). It
- has a 15" monitor (CTX).
-
- I have 16Mb of 60ns RAM, with 256K cache. It comes with the regular DOS
- and WINDOWS as well as mouse, floppies and a mini-tower case.
-
- The total, including shipping and handling is $3080.
-
- I was considering the Gateway 2000 66V System, but their phone service was
- really bad (with me).
-
- So, has anyone in the net had any good/bad experiences with the folks at
- Maximus? Do you think this a good deal? I think I have looked most of the
- aspects of the system for running Linux, so please, tell me if I am
- missing something. I have also consulted the buyers-guide (in comp.sys.intel?)
-
- I have set the followup to comp.os.linux, but I prefer e-mail.
-
- Thanks a lot in advance, (please no flames if any of the groups is not
- appropiate, apologies in advance, too).
-
