- Hello, netlanders!
-
- I just re-inherited (it's a brief story, but I still don't feel like telling
- it) a MiniScribe 20Mb FlashCard hard disk. I have a Seagate ST22R controller
- in my system, and a Maxtor disk already hooked up. I would like to use the
- Seagate controller for both drives (it's 16-bit: the controller that comes
- with the MiniScribe has an 8-bit interface).
-
- So, maybe I'm doing something dumb, but I can't seem to get this to work.
- I detached my Maxtor and hooked up the MiniScribe as C:, and the SeaGate
- BIOS ran me through the format no problem. This concluded my test of whether
- the controller could talk to the disk at all (it can).
-
- Next, I crammed a new plug on the cable running out of J2 (the big connector)
- on the controller so that I could connect it to 'J1 on both drives', as the
- seagate manual sez to do. I didn't put any twists or anything in the cable.
- I hooked the little connector of the MiniScribe to J4 on the controller, and
- figured I was all set.
-
- Not so. Both drives acted in sync, indicating to me that the controller
- thought they were both drive C:.
-
- So, I tried the floppy cable instead of the big HD cable, figuring that the
- twist in the cable might have something to do with it. If I use just my
- Maxtor on the untwisted connector, all is well. With the MiniScribe hooked
- up to the twisted connector, same problem as before.
-
- So. Can anyone tell me how to get two disks hooked up to my Seagate
- ST22R?
-
- Thanks for yer help!
