- As far as I know, it is *not* correct to say that a MB that can take
- four Meg SIMMs can use 3-chip 1Meg SIMMs. Originally, I thought that this
- was true, but after working for a PC manufacturer that has encountered these
- problems, I have been assured that this is not the case.

- The symptoms you are describing when using 3-chip SIMMs are exactly the
- same as problems that I have experienced, e.g. random lock-ups and crashes.
- Unfortunately, even using programs such as CheckIt (which we use extensively
- for system testing) will not necessarily show up these problems. All that I
- know, is that the chipset has to be capable of supporting a certain refresh
- cycle to use the 3-chip SIMMs
