I am running HP-UX 8.00 on a model 9000 345 HP system. Since upgarding to 8.00 I have been having the follwoing errors. I tried all I can think of, but to no avail. I would therefore appreciate any help on the matter.
(a) During the boot process I get the message:
Warning: Unable to configure dump device...using primary swap insted.
what is the dump device?, Should I be setting this device using mknod? If so, what is the format of the command?
(b) Also during the boot process I get the message:
Initializing the tracing and logging...
nettl: Warning: The device /dev/nettrace and/or /dev/netlog is not present continuing with the initialization of Trace/Log facility.
Kernel tracing/logging cannot be done.
/dev/nettrace and /dev/netlog both exist and I have removed them and rerun the customize script to make sure they were set up properly. But still the same error. These devices are set with permission 666 and they are character files.
(c) When performing backups using SAM, with the backup media being a 9144 cartridge tape, after the first tape I get the error:
EOT and no input device available
cannot unload tape /dev/update.src
The backup process then dies returing to the SAM screen???
(d) If I execute "shutdown 0" to bring the system in single user mode, the system is left in a confused state ! After the system displays on the console the standard stuff and shows starting init level sa, a message is printed to the effect that shutdown process timed out. The keyboard does not function properly and weird things happen. Things work fine if instead of shutdown I use the commane "init s". Any suggestions??
I would certainly appreciate any help that anyone can give on these questions. I have certianly spent a lot of time trying to eliminate these warings or errors.
