- I recently asked on the Aztec BBS when work would resume on the Amiga compiler.
- I got this reply from the guy who I believe is the #1 developer:
-
- MESSAGE: 9331 DATE/TIME: 01-19-93 2:06pm
- FROM : JEFF DAVIS RECEIVED : NO
- TO : PAUL KIENITZ PRIVATE : NO
- SUBJECT: anythin happenin? THREAD : YES
- FOLDER : D, "Amiga Folder"
-
- Paul,
- I've been told that the Aztec/Amiga product has been frozen at the
- current level; i.e. Manx is not planning on coming out with another
- update of the Amiga compiler.
- - Jeff Davis
- ----------------------------------------
-
- I am currently awaiting a further reply as to whether this means no bugfixes,
- or simply no major upgrades.
-
- In either case, the message is clear. Aztec C for Amiga is now basically an
- unsupported product.
-
- I never thought I'd be saying this, but:
-
- DON'T BUY AZTEC C.
-
- DO N O T BUY AZTEC C!
-
- To put that another way,
-
- Do NOT BUY Aztec C!!!
-
- The "current level" that it is frozen at has at least one serious defect, and
- is not entirely usable with 68040s either. Even if they come out with one last
- bugfix, the source level debugger will never get the major update it needs, and
- so forth. Nor will we ever get the stuff they were talking about for version
- 6, like a GUI front end, __chip and __far features, register tracking
- optimization, etc.
-
- Damn it's going to be a bitch to convert all my code to SAS or the commercial
- version of DICE ...
