- Dave, I am using an A3000 that has two Quantum drives (52 MB and 105 MB,
- both internal), one Maxtor drive (213 MB, external), and one SyQuest drive
- (44 MB, external). The Maxtor drive is louder than the Quantum drives, but
- I do not think that the noise is excessive (nor does the noise bother me).
- I can hear both my Quantum and Maxtor drives, but the Maxtor is just
- slightly more noisy (especially on power up when it "beeps" for a split
- second). As far as access speed and spin-up speed, they both seem about the
- same to me. If you have an A3000, then you do not need to upgrade, you can
- just add another drive internally (as I did). If you want some docs on how
- to do this, let me know (via e-mail).
-
- As far as price goes, I believe everyone lowered their prices by about $100
- last week. You can buy a Maxtor 213 external SCSI drive for about $479 from
- APS (where I bought mine). The internal version probably costs about $379,
- which is a great deal in my opinion. Also, from what I remember, both
- Quantum and Maxtor have the same warranty (two years). I do not work for
- APS, but their customer service and prices are GREAT - I would recommend
- that you check them out before purchasing anything. In fact, you should
- find your best price and then call them last; they will probably match any
- price if you are nice about mentioning some other companies "better" deal.
- Oh yes, APS has toll-free technical support, which is handy if you run into
- problems. Well, if you have any questions, let me know.
-
- Hope this helps,
-
- Lon
