  15. The press release gave the basic information about Advance. It is essentially
  16. a suite of four software packages, produced by four different companies, each
  17. based on one (or more) of that company's existing products. Thus the document
  18. processor part has distinct similarities with Impression Junior, the spread-
  19. sheet with Schema, the database with DataPower and so on. There is a small
  20. wimp application which allows the user to load one or more of these, and also
  21. 'Minimise Memory' by quitting unwanted Advance applications.

  23. As far as I could make out from two brief demonstrations, each of the
  24. packages is a very capable product, and put together, make a worthwhile
  25. set of tools, gaining a lot from their ability to transfer data from one
  26. package to another with very little effort on the users part. It looks 
  27. like a package which ought to do well in schools, and I could imagine many
  28. home users being tempted, given that it is an Acorn product and will cost
  29. "around about 100 pounds + VAT" for a single user (this figure has not yet
  30. been fixed), and four times that for a site licence.

  33. people who have seen it "warts & all" may have different opinions, but I
  34. doubt if we will see those posted here!
