- All this talk about the SWE programs failing to teach adequate skills is
- completely irrelevent. Name one field of study that really prepares the
- student for the "real world." MBA majors don't just "become" captains of
- industry. EE's don't just leave school and develop high end graphics boards.
- Physics majors don't just leave school and discover cold fusion. It is just
- not practical to expect school experience to be even close to the experience
- one gets while on the job.
-
- If there is a problem it is the lack of really experienced role models for
- new employees. SWE is not like any of the other engineering disciplines.
- In the software industry individuals with 30 years experience are considered
- obsolete where in most other engineering disciplines someone with 30 years
- of experience is a gold mine of usefull pratical relevant information.
