- I've got my Sun Net Manager implementation almost to the point where it is
- starting to get useful and have been thinking about the sort of things that
- I'd like to do with it, one of the ideas is that it would be really nice to
- be able to monitor disk errors and retrys on my file servers around the
- country. We still have a lot of old SMD disks that are starting to die on
- a regular basis. What I would like to know is, is there a structure in the
- kernel or device driver that keeps track of the number read and write retries
- and failures? And is it difficult to write your own agents for SNM? Also has
- anyone implemented a shell script or perl interface, so that you can generate
- traps from scripts?
-
- Other ideas i have in mind as SNM extensions are:
-
- o A watchdog process that checks up on our back up systems and generates
- events if a backup fails.
-
- o An agent that watches logins to modems and reports on failures, etc.
-
- If anyone has any ideas or experiences that they would like to share please
- send me some email.
