- We put a second ethernet card in a SPARCstation IPC running SunOS 4.1.1. We
- hope to use this card to spool to printers with EtherTalk interfaces using CAP
- configured for Phase II EtherTalk, so I ran ifconfig to bring up le1. Since we
- are not intending to use TCP/IP on this line, I did not register a new subnet
- or try to assign an IP address.
-
- After attaching an EtherTalk printer (a Tektronix Phaser IISD), which works
- fine on the rest of our ethernet, I looked for packets of any kind on le1 using
- the etherfind command and found nothing, even when doing an atlook, which also
- showed nothing.
-
- Although ifconfig reports le1 as "UP" and "RUNNING", I wonder if there is
- another configuration step in activating the interface. Is it required to have
- an address before the Sun will activate it? The documentation only talks about
- internet configurations. And in CAP, is the aarpd command line the only place
- (after specifying NIT in the compilation) to specify which interface we want to
- use?
-
- I would be grateful for any hints or suggestions.
