- Well, the LANMAN 2.1 manual says "to decide which version of OS/2 to install,
- consult your network specialist". Over the Xmas holiday me and a friend of mine
- tried to install LANMAN 2.1 under IBM OS/2 2.0 since in that case we were the
- network specialists. What happened was that when we ran setup from the LANMAN
- installation disks, the setup program only gave us the option of installing
- the workstation (client) software, not the server. Installation completed
- successfully but then the machine crashed during the next reboot so we went
- back and used the older MS OS/2 1.3 because we figured that:
-
- 1) It _might_ be more stable since LANMAN 2.1 ships with it (the network is
- in Greece and we are in the UK so we can't go back there and fix things if
- something nasty happens) and
-
- 2) The MS OS/2 1.3 only takes up 11 or so Megs of disk space compared to the
- 20 or so that IBM OS/2 takes up.
-
- We haven't had time to evaluate performance but it seems to be quite fast,
- although I'd recommend more than one server for that number of PCs.
