- Umm, no, that's not his problem. I'm confident that he has the right
- cable and that his monitor is just fine.

- The problem is that the NEC 4FG reports itself to the adapter as being
- an IBM 8514 monitor. This isn't a design flaw with the 4FG or its
- worthy competitors - back when they were designed, IBM's new 16-bit
- monitor ID algorithm wasn't available, and the only IBM-compatible
- 1024x768-capable monitor IDs available were for interlaced monitors.

- The solution (which someone has already posted) is to run the
- appropriate configuration programs that effectively tell the video
- drivers "never mind what the monitor claims it can do - it can also
- handle 1024x768 non-interlaced".
