- Umm - somebody must have forgotten to mention that to the customers
- back when IBM was selling the 8514/A adapter as the wave of the future.
- Personally, I hated the 8514/A adapter (I love the XGA) and don't
- particularly mind seeing it being relegated to the category of
- second-class citizen, but I can see where the folks who bought into
- it at the time - at the urging of their IBM marketing reps - might
- be a little upset.
-
- The point is that when you're a company that sells both operating
- systems and the hardware they run on, you can't even *look* like you're
- using the former to force your customers into upgrading the latter.
- This is an area where IBM has to be more careful than Microsoft -
- Microsoft doesn't make a dime if you have to trade up your 8514/A
- adapter to get access to a feature that the 8514/A should be able
- to provide in the first place - but IBM does.
