- About every 2nd or 3rd time I boot the 2.1b, the system goes reports detecting
- file errors, and goes through AUTOCHKDSK on my three logical HPFS drives. This
- occurs, although not on every boot, despite my having gone through routine
- "shut down" procedure. This morning, it did it again, but this time went
- through one or two drives checked, then halted with a system error, which I
- (stupidly) forgot to write down. It said something like "Hit <ENTER> to
- continue" so I did. The system then filled the screen with "CHKDSK corrected
- a disk space allocation error" messages. Once filled, they probably kept going
- on by, because the disk chugged along for about 13 minutes or so. When WPS
- finally appeared, I shut down, and booted from A: and ran a CHKDSK /F:3 from
- there. Forty minutes or so later it had finished (HDD logical partition for
- the problem logical drive is 677 megs or so. I rebooted again, and all seems
- well.
-
- My question is: What might be going on that the HPFS drives must be CHKDSKd
- every several boots or so??? And, am I risking a total loss of data? My
- system: 486/66dx2 AMI EISA motherboard with 16 meg. caching AMI EISA SCSI-2
- Model 44 controller, Toshiba 877 meg HDD (SCSI-2), Diamond Stealth VRAM
- video card (yeah, I know, I know), 16 megs RAM. C: drive is primary partition
- formatted 100 meg FAT and running DOS 5.0; D: is 50 meg logical HPFS partition
- with 2.0 GA+SP installed, but not running; E: is 50 meg logical HPFS partition
- with 2.1b installed, and running (I use boot mangler); F: is HPFS logical
- drive with the rest of the disk space, and programs and data are loaded here.
-
- Suggestions???? TIA!!!
