- I finally got around to trying the beta. I have a Western Digital
- Caviar 2120 with the GA+SP installed and running fine for ages.
- Tonight, I popped in an older WD drive, and started installing the
- beta on it.
-
- Everyting went fine until the point where it reboots after disk #5.
- It rebooted into the beta to select the type of installation, (pre-
- selected, all features, custom installation, learn to use a mouse)
- and when I clicked on "select features and install" (or equiv.),
- and cliked ok, it spun my HD for about a minute and a half, and then
- started making a GRODY clicking noise louder than anything I have ever
- heard from a component that isn't supposed to make noise.
-
- I turned off my system, tried again, same thing. I re-fdisked the hd,
- (it's 40mb BTW) formatted it to FAT (had been HPFS), and ran ndd (6.0)
- on it. Everything looked fine, so I tried the beta once again, with
- the same results.
-
- Perhaps a hard disk problem? Well, just for kicks, I started installing
- the GA, and had ZERO problems! I don't understand what could have made
- my hd make that noise--it was HIDEOUS!
-
- Any ideas?
