  11. I finally got around to trying the beta.  I have a Western Digital
  12. Caviar 2120 with the GA+SP installed and running fine for ages.  
  13. Tonight, I popped in an older WD drive, and started installing the
  14. beta on it.  
  15.  
  16. Everyting went fine until the point where it reboots after disk #5.
  17. It rebooted into the beta to select the type of installation, (pre-
  18. selected, all features, custom installation, learn to use a mouse) 
  19. and when I clicked on "select features and install" (or equiv.),
  20. and cliked ok, it spun my HD for about a minute and a half, and then
  21. started making a GRODY clicking noise louder than anything I have ever
  22. heard from a component that isn't supposed to make noise.

  24. I turned off my system, tried again, same thing.  I re-fdisked the hd,
  25. (it's 40mb BTW) formatted it to FAT (had been HPFS), and ran ndd (6.0)
  26. on it.  Everything looked fine, so I tried the beta once again, with
  27. the same results.

  29. Perhaps a hard disk problem?  Well, just for kicks, I started installing
  30. the GA, and had ZERO problems!  I don't understand what could have made
  31. my hd make that noise--it was HIDEOUS!
