- Subject: GA+SP Stable But Not This Afternoon

-
- I had some real nasty problems with OS/2 today and was wondering if
- someone could point me in the right direction; it would be a big
- help if someone would even tell me if my problems are probably
- hardware of software related.
-
- I've been running 2.0 GA+SP since a few days after the SP was
- available. The system is a Gateway 2000 486-33 16 meg RAM, 200
- meg IDE drive (partitioned 100 meg HPFS & 100 meg FAT), Diamond
- SpeedStar Plus using the SP's SVGA support. This system, until
- this afternoon, has been very stable. An occasional hang, but for
- the most part very stable.
-
- Out of nowhere today, full screen DOS apps starting getting TRAP 000D
- like crazy. I couldn't get anything done. I must have booted from
- floppy and ran CHKDSK a dozen times trying to get thing back together.
- It got really nasty when I'd boot OS/2 and it would try to restart
- all of the apps which were open when it last died and one of those
- apps kept getting a TRAP 000D. Every time I'd boot I go right back
- down again. I gave up running DOS apps but then even OS/2 appps would
- just hang the whole system. <ctl><alt><del> wouldn't even boot the
- system. It was getting ugly.
-
- I decided to take a break and have a little dinner. When I went back
- to work everything was working great again. I tried opening up every
- app I had and the system just kept running and running and running,
- no problem.
-
- Since I haven't put service on for a while and the system has been
- very stable, with the exception of for a few hours this afternoon,
- does this sound more like an intermittent hardware problem? If so,
- any suggestions for diagnostic tools to help isolate/resolve the
- problem? Any advice would be appreciated.
