- I believe the MPC specification says that the data transfer rate must
- be 150K/second (which this drive provides). I don't think MPC is
- particularly rigid about the access time. This drive is about
- average. Some drives are as slow as 1000ms average access; the high
- end Texels are now down around 250ms average access.

- I am suggesting that this NEC CDR-25 is attractive if price is a
- concern. If speed is a concern, then I recommend getting the Toshiba
- CD-ROM drive offered in conjunction with the OS/2 Professional
- Developer's Kit. Those drives start at $400 with a 350ms average
- access. The external, Kodak Photo CD compatible drive (with 300K/sec
- double spin) is $500. These prices are far below the street prices
- for comparable or equivalent drives, as far as I can tell.
