  16. Much of the volume on comp.os.linux used by questions that have been
  17. answered tens, hundreds or even thousands of times.

  19. Questions like:
  20.   - I have a ACME vga card. Will it work with X11?
  21.   - I have a ACME scsi controller. Does linux support it?
  22.   - I have a 100Mb hd and want it all in one partition, but mkfs don't
  23.     like block counts >65535, what do I do? (and you'll also be told why
  24.     this isn't a good idea)
  25.   - Can I have os/2, dos and linux on my 'puter?
  26.   - What is the meaning of life the universe and everything?
  27.   - I want to install Linux on my machine. Where do I start?
  28.   - du seem to report double sizes on files, what's up?
  29.   - I just upgraded my kernel, why don't ps work anymore?

  31. Answers on that and a lot more can be found in these documents:

  33.   INFO-SHEET (what is linux, features, hardware, getting linux)
  34.   meta-faq   (linux faq, linux newsgroups, ftp, bbs'es, about which
  35.           files to get when installing linux, mailing lists,
  36.           + quite a lot of other info and pointers)
  37.   faq_<Date> The complete linux faq. Contains answers on: Linux, linux
  38.          instalation, common problems, linux and dos, more problems,
  39.          hints, features, gcc, scsi, X11, networking, and emacs.

  41. Both the INFO-SHEET and meta-faq are posted regularly on comp.os.linux
  42. (recently on comp.os.linux.announce); you should be able to find it if
  43. you search backwards thru comp.os.linux for "INFO-SHEET" or "META-FAQ"
  44. in the subject line.

  56. The faq is _large_ but very well organized, and face it: you have to
  57. read _some_ docs to keep your system running smoothly, and the faq is
  58. a minimum.

  60. The problem is that the people who know the answers grow tired of
  61. answering the same questions time after time and stop answering. This
  62. is not what anyone wants, so please RTFM before asking. The manuals
  63. might be hard to understand, but please make a effort.

  65. If people could start doing this life on comp.os.linux would become
  66. better and maybe we could get rid of all the split posts too :)
