- When Linux boots up, it gives the prompt
- Press <RETURN> to see SVGA-modes available or <SPACE> to continue.
-
- If I press return, then the screen changes to a rolling grayish display.
- Pressing a number will then result in another unreadable display, eg.
- a rolling purple. By typing blind and watching the disk drive lights, I
- can determine that Linux is actually still working, but the screen remains
- useless.
-
- The same problem occurs with Linux 0.98.1, 0.98.3 and 0.99.1.
- My VGA BIOS proclaims itself as a "Quadtel" product. I'm not sure
- exactly what sort of board it is; it didn't come with any manuals :-(
-
- Suggestions, anyone? Any help would be much appreciated.

- I don't always manage to keep up with the sheer volume of comp.os.linux ;-)

- This .signature virus is a self-referential statement that is true - but
- you will only be able to consistently believe it if you copy it to your own
