- I am looking for a set of OS media for a MASSCOMP 5500P system. This
- is an M68000-based real-time data-acquisition system with a real-time
- variant of Unix (SVR3, I think). The system has a 50Mb HDD, 45Mb tape
- unit, 4Mb RAM, and a 5 1/4" floppy disk drive, along with an 8-port
- serial adapter. The system is capable of supporting a hi-res graphic
- monitor, as well as serial terminals.
-
- This particular system was manufactured in April 1984, and has a serial
- number of 209. It is, in a word, an antique.
-
- It served as a software development platform for my company from 1984
- through 1989 or 1990. It has been supplanted by newer workstations,
- however, and is no longer needed. We would like to get rid of it,
- however the system will not boot. Unfortunately, all of the original
- documentation and media have been lost through the years. In this
- condition, our only real alternative is to toss the thing in the
- dumpster. Seems quite a shame to do that to a venerable piece of
- computing history. We would like to get the system running again,
- and put it to some use or other, but without an OS, this seems to
- be impractical.
-
- I have spoken with various people at Concurrent Computer Corporation,
- which bought out Masscomp some years ago, but they couldn't help me.
- They did, however, tell me that since we are licensed to use the OS,
- getting a copy from another system owner would be perfectly legitimate.
-
- So, can anyone out there help me to resurrect this monster?
-
- Any and all help will be appreciated.
-
- Thanks -

-
- P.S. I have been told that these things were pretty popular with NASA.
- Perhaps someone there could help me?
