  13. I'm currently re-installing IDA-Sendmail (5.65c/1.4.4)
  14. [ist this a stable version ?] and am considering digging into
  15. the code to change the location of the .forward files.

  17. I want to address the well-known problem that the mailserver
  18. has to mount all home-dirs if .forward files are used.
  19. A better place for these files is IMHO the mail-spool.
  20.     * it's located on the mail-server
  21.     * all clients have it mounted
  22. The file-name could either be /var/spool/mail/user.forward or
  23. /var/spool/mail/fowards/user.
  24. File-permissions should be manageable: Same perms for the 
  25. forward-dir as /tmp. [btw, what ARE the default permissions
  26. for the spool dir ? and for /bin/mail ? SUID-root ? ]

  28. Has anybody done this already ?
  29. Is this considered a good idea ?
  30. What traps should I expect ?
