- We have been experiencing difficulties with MX records.
-
- In the case of a couple of nodes for which MX records have been installed if
- sendmail is not running on those nodes, the e-mail addressed to them is sent to
- the other node to which it should be sent but, instead of staying there or being
- forwarded to some third node, it is held in defered status on that node,
- addressed to the node to which it was originally addressed and not deliverable.
-
- In one case, if sendmail is running, then e-mail addressed to that node is sent
- on correctly to the other node to which the MX record points but if the addressee
- user's personal forwarding is set to the node which should be bypassed by the MX
- record, it is sent on there despite the MX record.
-
- The MX record thus seems to occasion correct forwarding to the node to which it
- points but to stop working after that, leaving mail to be either sent on to the
- node which is supposed to be bypassed or sit in mailq in deferred status.
-
- For other nodes for which we have installed MX records, they work correctly. We
- would like to hear any possible explanations.
